title: Comprehensive Government Measures to Combat Suicidal Tendencies subtitle: Interdepartmental Collaboration for Suicide Prevention as a National Priority lead: The 'Inter-Korean Suicide Prevention Headquarters' under the Prime Minister's Office was launched, with the government committing to prioritize suicide prevention as a national top-priority issue and protect the citizens in distress with a sense of duty. On the 24th in the afternoon, a meeting on suicide prevention-related affairs among related ministries was held at the Government Sejong Complex, chaired by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok. This meeting was arranged to check the progress of each department's efforts and discuss issues that require collaboration between departments since three months had passed since the release of the overall strategy. During the meeting, Kim Min-seok, the Prime Minister, emphasized the need for a paradigm shift from viewing suicide as an individual problem or focusing on post-event and curative perspectives. He stated, "From now on, we should view it as a 'societal problem that can happen to anyone,'" and added, "The government will prioritize suicide prevention as a national top-priority issue and protect the citizens in distress with the sense of duty as the last line of defense." The key points discussed during the meeting included: 1. The Ministry of Health and Welfare will conduct an intensive promotion campaign for suicide prevention through various media channels and expand support for suicide attempt survivors and bereaved families next year. 2. The Ministry of Education will prepare a 'Student Mental Health Support Improvement Plan' by the end of the year and, in the following year, will expand the 'Student Mental Health Voucher' support to concentrate on supporting students at high risk. 3. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will construct an AI-based crisis detection system to early detect warning signals on SNS and other platforms to quickly locate and provide counseling services for at-risk teenagers, while also expanding intensive counseling support for high-risk teenagers. 4. The Ministry of Employment and Labor will expand the mental health infrastructure by expanding job trauma centers and strengthening the inspection of emotional labor protective measures for high-risk workplaces. 5. The Financial Supervisory Commission will continue to carry out the New Leap Fund operation, which includes the disposal and debt adjustment of long-term delinquent loans for individuals (including self-employed individuals), and will strengthen the voice phishing victim support by legislating the 'Telecommunication Fraud Victim Compensation Act' to specify the no-fault liability of financial companies. 6. The Ministry of Administrative Safety will contribute to the reduction of suicide rates by supporting the strengthening of suicide prevention functions in local governments through the establishment of dedicated organizations and personnel reinforcement, as well as maintaining close communication with central-level meetings and key organizations. 7. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will strengthen the ethical guidelines for journalists reporting on suicide and conduct an awareness campaign on suicide reporting, promote a nationwide life-valuing movement through collaboration with the religious community, and enhance tailored support for mass culture artists and entertainers. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok reviewed the progress of each department's efforts and future plans and urged the related departments to further accelerate their countermeasures. The 'Inter-Korean Suicide Prevention Headquarters' under the Prime Minister's Office will continuously monitor the progress of each department's efforts, enhance collaboration between departments and local governments, and strengthen the overall national response to ensure that tailored government policies can be felt by the people.
