The government officially unveiled its vision to invest over 700 trillion won by 2047 to establish ten new semiconductor fabrication plants, among other measures to decentralize the semiconductor industry and create new growth axes. This includes designating new specialized zones for semiconductor and advanced industries outside of metropolitan areas and providing incentives like flexible working hours for regional semiconductor employees and increased investment funds. In response, Haenam County emphasized its preparedness as the optimal site for semiconductor fabrication plant (FAB) procurement. The county highlighted its competitive advantages, such as abundant renewable energy, available large-scale industrial sites, and ample water resources from the Yeongam Dam and Geumho Dam. Haenam County has already been recognized for its competitive advantages, as it has been designated as the national opportunity development special zone for the solar city and enterprise city, as well as the site for the national AI computing center and a large-scale AI data center. Furthermore, the expected approval of the Renewable Energy Self-Sufficient City Special Act by the end of this year could lead to Haenam County being selected as the first site for a Renewable Energy Self-Sufficient National Industrial Complex. A county official stated, "Haenam is already well-prepared with renewable energy, industrial sites, and living conditions for semiconductor fabrication plant procurement. With the government's strategic focus and practical support, Haenam can serve as a representative success model for national balanced development and become a new axis for the K-semiconductor industry."
