title: Securing National Budget for Cluster New Fishery Town Development in Haenam Haenam County has successfully secured a national budget of KRW 22.9 billion for its fishery town development projects: the construction of a national fishing port and the revitalization of fishing villages, which are set to commence next year. The projects are expected to enhance the competitiveness of Haenam's marine fisheries sector by improving port environments and boosting the economic vitality of fishing communities. The Cluster New Fishery Town Development project at Eoran Jin Port will receive KRW 15 billion in national funding. This will be used to build worker rest areas, communal indoor workspaces, smart shelters, and smart resting areas, as well as installing smart port facilities and smart waste reduction systems. The project will also involve developing representative local specialties, such as seaweed and abalone, into food products and implementing revitalization programs for residents. The ultimate goal is to create a clean, safe, and smart fishing port with sustainable seafood production and a vibrant hub that attracts young people. Construction is expected to begin in 2028, starting with basic and detailed design work next year. For the Fishing Village Revitalization Project, Hangji Hakga and Ugeun Port have been selected as the final target areas, receiving KRW 7 billion (with a total project cost of KRW 10 billion) in national funding. At Hakga Port, the project will focus on improving living infrastructure for fishermen, such as extending port entry roads and providing facilities to support fishing activities. Additionally, the port environment will be enhanced through village landscaping and waste disposal facility construction. At Ugeun Port, the project will involve renovating port facilities, such as extending the berth and expanding the fishpond area, as well as implementing soft-ware projects like developing a seaweed brand. Next year, KRW 350 million in national funds will be allocated for the basic planning study. The Mokpo Regional Marine Fisheries Bureau's Eoran Jin Port New Port Development Project, which began this year, has also had KRW 42 billion allocated in national funding for next year. Over five years, the project will receive a total of KRW 456 billion to improve port infrastructure, such as dredging port routes and deepening water depths, constructing seawalls, and securing sufficient backland areas. The Songji area of Atlan Village, which includes Eoran Jin Port, was also selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 2024 Rural Space Renovation Project, with a total project cost of KRW 60 billion. This will involve constructing new facilities to improve living environments and building a multi-purpose cultural center for residents. Additionally, a bridge connecting Atbuldo Island is being constructed as part of a KRW 217 billion project, further contributing to the significant transformation of the Eoran Jin Port area. Gunsu Nam Hyun-gwan stated, "The new projects for next year, along with the ongoing marine fisheries projects, are expected to serve as a driving force for improving fishermen's income and creating a sustainable fishing community through improved living infrastructure."
