곡성군, 산림유역관리사업으로 산사태 예방 강화

전남 곡성군(군수 조상래) announced on the 18th that it has completed the San106-1 zone project in Hadong-myeon, Gwangyang-si, for the prevention of disasters in vulnerable areas prone to mountain disasters. San림유역관리사업, or forestry watershed management projects, treat the forestry upstream to downstream as a unified space and manage elements such as channeling and anti-landslide facilities comprehensively. These projects prevent soil erosion, mountain disasters, and conserve water sources and forest ecosystems. In this project, approximately 10 billion won was invested. Measures were taken to strengthen safety in areas with high risks of landslides and mountain disasters during heavy rainfall by installing anti-landslide dams and repairing channels. Dangerous slopes within the forest were also reinforced, and drainage systems were improved. The ultimate goal of Gwangyang-si's approach is to create a sustainable forest environment that can cope with extreme rainfall due to climate change. They aim to establish a preemptive disaster prevention system in forest management. In the future, the city plans to continue maintaining and managing these facilities to ensure their functionality and stability. Additional forestry watershed management projects are also planned for O-myeon Songjeong-ri and Motsa-dong Su-ri by 2026. Through these initiatives, the city aspires to strengthen the safety foundation for its residents by protecting their lives and property.
