Gwangseong County and Jeonnam Science University held the 2025 2nd Inter-Regional Development Cooperation Council on the 23rd, discussing cooperation methods for sustainable co-prosperity between the region and the university, as revealed on the 26th. Launched in 2017 and now in its 24th year, the Inter-Regional Development Cooperation Council has been laying the foundation for regional development through various cooperation projects such as job-linked specialized education and region-tailored human resource cultivation. This council meeting was attended by around 20 representatives from both institutions, including the Gwangseong County Planning Office Director and the Head of Jeonnam Science University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Center. They reviewed the progress of 22 ongoing cooperation projects and discussed future operational directions. Discussions covered ongoing projects, such as the Education Development Special Zone operation area, the Youth Participation Outdoor Advertising Design Project, out-of-region enrollment student support, the 1000-won breakfast support project, and the selection of excellent seed varieties for greenhouses. They also explored new cooperation proposals, including international student recruitment and regional settlement connection, elderly-targeted digital literacy enhancement and voice prevention education, region-wide mind care program, and a tourist attraction recreational facility zone with connected departments. Particularly, in the international student recruitment area, both the county and university agreed to collaborate from the early stages on a plan that would not only attract students but also encourage them to settle in the region after graduation, linking with Gwangseong County's regional specialty visa program. Furthermore, they aimed to strengthen the cooperation network among local government, universities, and welfare and medical institutions to provide lifestyle-integrated digital literacy education for the elderly and construct a preventive-centered mind care system. As both parties embark on the first year of the RISE (Regional Innovation Center University Support System) project, they shared the significant meaning that this year holds for their new leap. They committed to further strengthening regional industry competitiveness and expanding technical education in the coming 2026, building a substantial symbiotic development model together. Gwangseong County and Jeonnam Science University plan to continue exploring and expanding cooperative projects in various fields such as education, youth, industry, and welfare through regular cooperation meetings in the future.
